Join WA’s political analysis webinar on Friday 19th June, the morning after the critical Makerfield by-election, to explore the impact of the result.

Jen Gerber, WA Senior Political Adviser and former Special Adviser to Andy Burnham, and Steve Richards, Chair of WA’s Advisory Board and one of Britain’s most respected political commentators, authors and broadcasters, will assess the result and examine the political, communications, and business implications. Chaired by WA Partner Lee Findell, we will discuss:

  • What the result means for Keir Starmer, potential Labour leadership contenders, and the possible timings for a leadership election.
  • The key individuals driving Andy Burnham’s Makerfield campaign, who is shaping his policy thinking and plan for government, and the insights we can draw on from his previous Ministerial roles at the Department for Health & Social Care and HM Treasury.
  • The mood across the Parliamentary Labour Party, and perspectives of key cabinet members and possible leadership candidates.
  • The lessons from Makerfield for each political party – from the impact of Restore Britain on Reform UK’s vote, to the threat posed to Labour by the Greens.
  • What to watch in any election for a new Mayor of Greater Manchester.
  • How businesses can navigate and plan in an era of continually anticipated change.
