Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

The intern will be responsible for providing policy teams with high quality monitoring and research support services.

This internship would be an ideal opportunity for an ambitious graduate or under graduate who is seeking to pursue a career in public affairs or policy and who has a strong interest in financial services.

Duties and responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supporting teams with the following:

  • Management of central excel spreadsheet covering Brexit related legislation and regulations;
  • Desk research and insights gathering;
  • Monitoring and collating political and regulatory developments on relevant policies in the UK, EU and internationally;
  • Monitoring social, online and traditional media for trends and the identification of opportunities in the capital markets and wholesale space;
  • Producing briefings, member content, updates and newsletters;
  • Developing, writing and editing policy consultations, research papers and reports;
  • Generating online content and news stories;
  • Reviewing publications, copy writing and editing;
  • Events and engagement activity;
  • Ad hoc administrative tasks;
  • Any other task that may reasonably be required.

Skills and competencies

In order to be considered for this role, it is essential that candidates are able to demonstrate the following:

  • A strong interest in politics, public affairs and the financial services industry;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; in particular Microsoft excel;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • A conscientious approach with excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills;
  • Working knowledge of the major social media channels including Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Must be able to multi task and handle a number of projects and deadlines concurrently;
  • Must be a proactive self-starter with strong initiative and a willing, can-do attitude;
  • Ability to operate effectively and collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Strong research skills.

Qualifications

As a minimum requirement candidates must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.1 Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
