The Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS) is an educational charity representing and promoting the interests of over 70 independent schools across the country.

SCIS aims to advance education via curriculum development and the training of teachers; communicating and negotiating with the Scottish Parliament, Government, and public and private bodies on behalf of the independent sector; providing impartial information, advice and guidance to parents, as well as advising member schools and their governing bodies on educational developments and legislation affecting independent schools.

After a remarkable 13 years in the role, the current Chief Executive, John Edward, is stepping down to pursue a new challenge and the Board now seek a new Chief Executive to help set and implement the strategic direction for SCIS. The appointed individual will have a passion for education and will come to the post with a proven track record of leadership. They will lead a small, high performing team to shape and deliver SCIS’s future strategy. Candidates will bring a deep passion and interest in advocating for the sector. They will be aware of the challenges and opportunities that SCIS may face over the coming years and bring considerable networks with strong relationship building and influencing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the vision and providing the necessary leadership and strategic direction required for both SCIS’s employees and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be a natural ambassador and advocate for SCIS, comfortable in the spotlight, well networked and a confident public speaker. They will share SCIS’s values and be passionate about education, collaborative and inclusive in their leadership style, innovative and dynamic with the ambition to oversee change.
