Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

We are looking for a Communications Officer to drive forward the organisation’s external communications programme. Covering a diverse array of topical issues, including funding and investment, Covid-19 vaccination, health inequalities, integrated care and NHS net zero, you will lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s PR, communications and social media activity.

Reporting into the Head of Public Affairs and working closely with the CEO and policy team, you will plan and deliver communications plans and maintain an active press office, building relationships with national and trade media journalists and editors as well as the communications leads from national brands such as Boots, Tesco and Superdrug.

This position is ideal for someone with proven communications experience keen to work across an array of health and corporate communications issues.

You will have the opportunity to work with our members and the CCA team to deliver proactive corporate campaigns as well as managing a fast-paced press office, responding to media enquiries as they arise. You will join us at an exciting time for the CCA and the UK’s community pharmacy sector.

Skills and experience

  • Proven experience in an agency, as a press officer in an in-house role or a similar role (e.g., journalism);
  • Ability to foster good relationships with journalists and pitch in stories through strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to deliver advice to senior colleagues;
  • Good written and verbal communications skills;
  • Good time management and ability to manage multiple requests and workstreams;
  • Experience / knowledge of healthcare is desirable;
  • Education to an undergraduate degree level, or equivalent, preferably in English, journalism, media studies or public relations.

Who are we?

Established in 1898, the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA) is a trade association for the large community pharmacy operators in England, Scotland, and Wales. We represent the interests of our members and provide a forum for them to combine their unique scale, skills, and knowledge for the benefit of patients, the public, and the NHS.  Our members own and operate around 5,500 pharmacies across Britain. They dispense over 500 million NHS prescription items every year and deliver a broad range of healthcare and wellbeing services – such as COVID vaccinations.

The role is based in our London office, with the opportunity for some blended home working. The salary for this job is up to £30k.
