RNIB is seeking a Policy and Public Affairs Manager for a 12 month period to cover the current postholder’s sabbatical leave.

The successful candidate will be part of the External Affairs Team in Wales and work closely with the External Affairs Manager to develop and deliver specific campaigns that address the issues that matter to people with sight loss in Wales and improve their lives for the better.

This is an exciting time to be joining RNIB as we embark on a new Senedd term and you will be responsible for developing  relationships with new Members of the Senedd as well as re-establishing a new Cross Party Group on Vision.   You will also have line management responsibility for the Policy and Campaigns Officer and oversight of their work to support our base of campaigners to influence change in the run up to the local elections in 2022.

About you

You will be self-driven with experience of working to secure change in policy and practice.  You’ll also need the ability to grasp complex issues quickly and have excellent drafting skills to develop impactful briefings for a variety of audiences.  With good knowledge and understanding of the political landscape in Wales you will have a passion and enthusiasm to challenge inequalities and break down the barriers blind and partially sighted people face in their everyday lives.

About RNIB

We’re the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and we’re here for everyone affected by sight loss. Working for us means working for one of the UK’s biggest charities, breaking down barriers for the 111,000 people living with sight loss in Wales.

RNIB is passionate about tackling the discrimination and social exclusion faced by blind and partially sighted people.

This post is part of our External Affairs team in Wales. We are looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager with a proven track record in delivering significant change in public policy and influencing key decision makers, with the knowledge, ability and drive to inspire and work with blind and partially sighted people, staff, volunteers and partners.

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will have experience of successful influencing work with political stakeholders and a good knowledge of the workings of the Welsh Parliament and Welsh Government.

RNIB is committed to being led by our customers (blind and partially sighted people), and one of the ways we do this is through active involvement and engagement in many of our work activities, including the recruitment of new members of staff.

Please be aware that blind and partially sighted volunteers may be involved in the recruitment and selection process for this vacancy, including reviewing job applications and CVs, shortlisting and interviews and selection tests.

RNIB is committed to being an Equal Opportunities organisation and we welcome applications from people with sight loss.

Interview date: 21 July 2021.
