Our industry, a major contributor to the economy of the UK, brings life-saving and life-enhancing medicines to patients. Our members supply 90 per cent of all medicines used by the NHS, and are researching and developing over two-thirds of the current medicines pipeline, ensuring that the UK remains at the forefront of helping patients prevent and overcome diseases.
The ABPI is recognised by government as the industry body negotiating on behalf of the branded pharmaceutical industry for statutory consultation requirements including the pricing scheme for medicines in the UK.

The Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs, the role will be to maximize the impact of the ABPI’s policy and advocacy programme by developing ABPI policy positions that bring our members together and resonate with stakeholders. Key responsibilities will include:
- Initiate and drive the development of specific policy campaigns and programmes
- Monitor and analyse the health, commercial and research policy environment, providing analysis and updates to senior leadership and members
- Identify strategic policy opportunities for development and analyse key policy issues relevant to the ABPI and its members
- Work across the ABPI policy experts to develop compelling policies and positions that secure traction with stakeholders
- Co-ordinate the consultation of ABPI member companies, relevant stakeholders and partners on the most effective responses to government and NHS initiatives and consultations
- Support industry working groups with government and other bodies
- Represent the ABPI in relevant committees, task forces or groups
- Take the lead for the ABPI’s relationships with patient organisations and the running of the ABPI’s Patient Organisation Forum.
The Person
Educated to degree level or above and with a track record in a policy role, the ideal candidate must be a strong project manager, and have excellent analytical and communication skills. Direct experience of at least one relevant policy area e.g. health, science/R&D, industrial/business policy would be a distinct advantage.
