Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Join the Network

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to gain experience in a small, busy public affairs company in Westminster. During this six month internship you will develop experience of monitoring Parliamentary and policy developments and a good understanding of Westminster, Whitehall and EU processes.

The internship will start in late April 2014, be full-time and be based in Westminster. Some limited travel within the UK and to Brussels may be involved.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitoring policy and legislative developments from a range of UK and European sources;
  • Preparation of briefing notes, newsletters and press releases;
  • Updating online content for client websites;
  • Providing administrative support for clients including membership subscriptions, circulation of newsletters and other documentation;
  • Supporting client meetings and events.

Essential skills

  • A strong interest in current affairs;
  • A basic understanding of Government and EU processes;
  • The ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate written material;
  • Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels;
  • A good degree in a relevant subject such as politics, law or economics;
  • Strong IT skills: MS Word for Windows, PowerPoint and Excel.

Desirable skills

  • Experience of one or more of the following policy areas: charities, environment, CSR, property, taxation;
  • Experience of using social media and/or website management;
  • Proficiency in a second European language;
  • Prior experience of political monitoring or working in a public affairs related role.

You must be

  • A self starter capable of working on your own initiative with minimum supervision;
  • A team player, willing to support colleagues by performing a range of office functions;
  • Willing to commit yourself to the six month internship period;
  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn;
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
