Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

Uplift is a new organisation helping to move the UK towards a fossil fuel-free future. We strategically resource, connect and elevate ideas and voices to set in motion a just transition away from fossil fuel production that is commensurate with the scale of the climate crisis.  We are currently looking for a Public Affairs Manager to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to help build an ambitious movement to phase out oil and gas extraction in the UK. 

The Role 

Uplift is looking for a skilled advocate, strategist and communicator to develop and implement our public affairs strategy. You will work closely with the rest of Uplift’s team and our partners to create and capitalise on opportunities to build support for campaigns among political audiences.

Core responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Uplift’s public affairs strategy;
  • Build relationships and support among parliamentarians and policy-makers;
  • Create opportunities to increase awareness and support for Uplift and partner campaigns among political audiences;
  • Help draft and adapt accurate briefings to shape relevant political debate;
  • Monitor political and policy developments;
  • Generate speaking opportunities and attend relevant events for Uplift and partner organisations;
  • Coordinate advocacy with partner organisations, including in Scotland.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • Experience in advocacy or public affairs with success in influencing UK government policy;
  • Thorough knowledge of Parliamentary procedures and policy-making and regulatory processes;
  • Good Westminster and Whitehall contacts;
  • Excellent networking and relationship-building skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Motivation, initiative, exceptionally high standards, a collaborative approach, and associated qualities needed to work in a dynamic new organisation;
  • A strong commitment to Uplift’s mission and core values of equity and climate justice. 

A good understanding of UK climate and energy policy is desirable but not essential.

Status: Full-time, one year contract with high likelihood of renewal.
