Dynamic, pioneering and inspiring, Camelot transforms lives – of National Lottery winners, of the beneficiaries of the Good Causes, and of our staff. We’re licensed to run the National Lottery until 2023, and are committed to maximising returns to the Good Causes in the most efficient and socially responsible way. We have more than 36,000 retailers nationwide to help us achieve our goals, run the world’s most successful lottery website and operate four of the UK’s biggest brands including Lotto and EuroMillions. Around 70% of the UK’s adult population play The National Lottery on a regular basis – greater reach than any other FMCG brand in the UK.

We are currently seeking a Regulatory Affairs Executive who will support the Regulatory Affairs Team in helping to unlock Camelot’s ambitious growth plans for the National Lottery, through managing specific projects and initiatives across areas including seeking approval for new game launches, licence compliance and incident management.

The Regulatory Affairs Team is responsible for managing Camelot’s regulatory activity – most importantly through managing Camelot’s relationship with its current regulator, the National Lottery Commission (NLC). The team plays a lead role in obtaining regulatory approval for new proposals (eg. draw based games, instant win games, licence changes), managing compliance with Camelot’s licence obligations, and investigating and defending cases where it is alleged Camelot may have breached its licence obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Manager, the Regulatory Affairs Executive helps Camelot liaise with the National Lottery Commission (NLC), building an effective working relationship with NLC officials and escalating issues and queries where appropriate;
  • Leads regulatory engagement on specific commercial projects, drafting proposals and submissions in support of Camelot's strategic objectives;
  • Provides advice throughout the company and manages internal queries regarding licensing, compliance and other regulatory matters;
  • Helps manage Camelot’s day-to-day compliance with its licence commitments and regulatory requirements, including: sign-off of National Lottery communications that require approval; management of player complaints; and management of regulatory enforcement activity, including dealing with incidents and defending potential licence breaches;
  • Ensures that registers of player complaints and regulatory incidents are maintained and updated, escalating issues where appropriate;
  • Continually monitors the regulatory environment to strengthen Camelot's understanding of, and adherence to, the regulatory framework;
  • Manages complex requests for information from the NLC and other external stakeholders, including Freedom of Information requests;
  • Liaises with Camelot teams to collate and produce the company’s regulatory reporting requirements to the NLC;
  • Prepares ad hoc briefing papers, research and analysis on issues relevant to the Regulatory Affairs Team as required.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience working successfully in a regulatory role, either for an industry regulator or within an internal regulatory affairs team for a regulated company, gained for example within the energy, broadcasting, water, or rail sectors;
  • Proactive approach to projects and problem solving, with experience working specifically on commercial business assignments;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain problems clearly and concisely and recommend action;
  • Rigorous attention to detail, particularly when operating under tight timeframes;
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong intellectual and analytical skills, including the ability to build persuasive arguments in support of a position;
  • Ability to identify key information needed to make decisions and exercise good judgement in straightforward situations;
  • Knowledge of lottery regulation advantageous but not essential;
  • Experience of working in a technology or digital environment highly advantageous.
