The EPMF is the European Precious Metals Federation, the Brussels-based association representing the European precious metals industry. The EPMF was formed in June 2006, in order to set a reinforced working structure aimed at increasing the commitment, efficiency, credibility and legitimacy of the European precious metals industry in all its advocacy activities at European level. The EPMF is a member of Eurométaux.
In order to represent the EPMF and its REACH Precious Metals and Rhenium Consortium (PMC), as well as to oversee the projects (and associated budgets) of the EPMF, while guarding, as Trustee, the application of the EPMF’s Articles of Association and Internal Rules, and the PMC Agreement, within the boundaries of Competition Law and confidentiality, the EPMF seeks to recruit a Secretary-General.
The Secretary-General reports to the President and Vice-President of the EPMF, and to the Chairman and Co-Chairman of the PMC. All officers and consultants working for the EPMF and PMC projects report to the Secretary-General. The Secretary-General serves the interests of the association and all its projects.
Main responsibilities:
- Prime contact and representative of EPMF and PMC for Members, non-members, and third parties including EU institutions, National Competent Authorities, and other stakeholders;
- Accountable for EPMF’s administrative matters: preparation and signature of EPMF and PMC statements and publications, contracts and contractual agreements with third parties, financial items, and management of the officers and external consultants;
- Representation of EPMF in Eurométaux: Participation and representation/defence of precious metal-specificities in strategic, decision-making, and technical committees and work groups of Eurométaux;
- Representation of EPMF in other (precious metals) associations and in the ad hoc cross-association PlatforM;
- Secretariat for EPMF’s Assembly, Board, Tax, Trade & Competitiveness, EHS, and Sustainability committees and work groups;
- Secretariat for PMC’ Assembly, Management Committee, and Legal and Cost-sharing work groups;
- Trustee: Guarding faithful implementation of EPMF Articles of Association, EPMF Internal Rules, PMC Agreement, Competition Law, and confidentiality provisions;
- Guardian of the EPMF’s and PMC’ argumentation and credibility when communicating on and advocating for precious metal specific-regulatory concerns.
Required profile, competences and skills:
- University Science degree (chemistry, chemical engineering, bio-chemistry, toxicology, eco-toxicology and/or other related bio-, life- or environmental sciences), coupled with basic knowledge in economics, Law, etc.;
- Experience of applying and developing this knowledge within an industrial (company/association) or regulatory setting with a variable agenda – extensive years of professional experience in the chemicals, inorganics or metals industry is envisaged as appropriate;
- Fluent in English; proficiency in other EU languages such as German and French is an advantage;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. An ability to convey arguments in a diplomatic but credible and persuasive manner is a requirement. Minded of legal implications and liability aspects of internal and external communication;
- Experience in detecting and dealing with Confidential Business Information and Competition Law-sensitive information and to select, filter, aggregate, and anonymise it as relevant for collective purposes;

High interest in knowledge building and networking, and strong management, regulatory, and scientific skills:
- A working knowledge of the REACH and GHS regulations and associated processes is preferred;
- A deep understanding of the functioning of EU institutions, at both regulatory and political levels, is an asset;
- Strong strategy/project and people management skills. A demonstrated ability to learn, lead, execute, and complete deliverables both independently and also as a team player;
- Flexible mind-set, able to multi-task, and comfortable with working to deadlines and dealing with evolving priorities.
- Willing to travel within the EU (~ 6 weeks/year; mainly one day trips) and exceptionally outside the EU;
- PC-literate (MS Office suite); project management experience and proficiency with data analysis tools are desirable;
- Proactive, flexible, autonomous, positive, diplomatic, and reliable.

- Position based in Brussels, although occasional travelling within the EU may be required;

- All tasks of administrative nature would be accomplished with the support of a shared Office Manager;
- Specific scientific and project management tasks would be accomplished with the support of a Scientific Manager and a Project Facilitator;
