This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a leading Public Policy team and work within our Global Responsible Investment team to shape our advocacy and stakeholder engagement on sustainable finance and market reform to promote long termism. Focus will be on management of policy issues with multi-lateral organisations that affect our customers, our company and society.
Role Purpose & Accountabilities
Reporting to the Head of International Government Engagement, you will help develop and execute a global public policy strategy for Aviva on sustainable development and related issues, in close conjunction with senior leaders and expert teams across the business.
You will:
- Work within the Global Public Policy team as part of a wider UK, EU, International and Corporate Responsibility Department collaboratively shaping the external policy environment, focusing on issues and campaigns which advocate long-term sustainable development, that are most important for our customers, the company and society;
- Anticipate, identify and proactively manage future global policy issues of significance to Aviva’s customers and business, and the wider insurance and asset management sectors;
- Proactively manage Aviva’s reputation among key global political stakeholders through external contact and campaigning activities focused on e.g. climate change, human rights and long-term regulatory change;
- React to significant proposals from multi-lateral organisations such as the UN, OECD, G20 and their member states to promote Aviva’s interests;
- Become a trusted counsel internally and externally on key issues, winning the respect of opinion formers and senior colleagues;
- Work closely with the UK Public Policy team, Aviva Global Centre, and local Business Unit colleagues to establish Aviva as a thought leader in the relevant global public policy agenda;
- Act as a promoter/source of new ideas and challenge, and work in an agile way;

- Be flexible with regular travel.
Qualifications & Experience
Our ideal candidate has:
- A strong degree qualification;
- Understanding of how multi-lateral agencies and policy-making bodies operate, particularly the UN, OECD, G20;
- Hands on experience of working with Governments, politicians, political groups, officials, public bodies, campaigning groups and trade associations, particularly in a global context;
- Strong influencing, negotiation and networking skills;
- Experience of building multi-stakeholder coalitions;
- Provided advice/guidance and influence at senior management level;
- Translated complex matters in a concise way;
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills;
- Programme management experience;
- Some knowledge of financial services industry (desirable);
- Understanding of the risks faced by the public policy function and the necessary controls in place to manage and mitigate those risks;
- A passion for long-term sustainability;
- A second language (desirable).
