You will help develop and execute BT’s public affairs strategy in support of its business as the leading UK investor in full fibre and 5G networks and its convergence plans, bringing together the UK’s best fixed and mobile networks to deliver an unparalleled experience for our customers . Do that well, strengthening BT’s engagement and reputation with political audiences and wider stakeholders, and you can do a great deal both to advance BT’s interests and business objectives, and to build value in the company.
You'll have the following responsibilities:
- Managing BT Group’s engagement with UK political stakeholders on network-related priorities: delivering a compelling narrative of the Group’s infrastructure investment in full fibre and 5G; leadership of major announcements, events campaigns and associated comms activity; acting as a public advocate for BT Group with Government, politicians and industry audiences; and identifying and delivering improvements to our public affairs approach;
- Effective relationship management with wider stakeholders – owning engagement with key trade bodies, influencers and think tanks, building campaigns and tactical alliances to advance our policy and reputational priorities;
- Political horizon-scanning – ensuring we’re well-prepared to take advantage of opportunities or deal with emerging network-related issues;
- Providing expert and timely support and advice to the wider business on key political developments;
- Managing enquiries and issues from MPs.
You'll have the following skills & experience
You will need to show evidence of competence in (and experience of):
- Communication, including public advocacy – able to engage in public debate and argument as an ambassador for BT;
- Political strategy, including tactical campaign planning;
- Influencing and negotiating – able to build effective networks within the company and across the industry and political spectrum;
- Policy analysis and policy-making – able to understand and unpick complex policy and technical issues;
- Business development – using political networks and insight to help development of commercial strategies and opportunities.
