Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

The ABI is the voice of the UK’s insurance and long-term savings industry. It has almost 300 members, which together account for around 90% of premiums in the UK domestic market.

The ABI’s role is to:

  • Be the voice of the UK insurance industry, leading debate and speaking up for insurers;
  • Represent the UK insurance industry to government, regulators and policy makers in the UK, EU and internationally, driving effective public policy and regulation;
  • Advocate high standards of customer service within the industry and provide useful information to the public about insurance;
  • Promote the benefits of insurance to the government, regulators, policy makers and the public.

The ABI is currently looking for a Policy Assistant to join our Regulation team. The successful applicant will, on behalf of the ABI and its members, help to shape and influence public policy and regulatory issues of interest to insurers as institutional investors.

The incumbent of this role will work closely with the Investment Association (IA) on investment matters and will work in collaboration with our Prudential Regulation, European and Long Term Savings teams.

The successful candidate is likely to be graduate level, with some early career experience and be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Strong intellectual ability to understand and summarise complex documents;
  • A keen interest in developing knowledge on capital markets and to learn from ABI colleagues, IA staff and ABI members;
  • A confident self-starter with an open personality, prepared to work in close co-operation with internal and external contacts;
  • To take a proactive approach to managing internal and external stakeholders through both formal and informal routes;
  • Strong organisational skills and a high concern for quality and attention to detail;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels: this implies a high level of written and spoken English;
  • Mature and positive, with a “can-do” attitude and willingness to adapt to changing work demands.
