About the role
Can you help us tell local government’s story during its most challenging time? We are looking for a writer capable of producing compelling copy and speeches to help us set the agenda and win hearts and minds.
Working within our Communications Directorate, your main duties will include:
- Prepare speeches, bulletins and other communications for our political leadership and senior management team;
- Co-ordinating a strategic programme of engagement to promote the LGA in Parliament and with a wide range of stakeholders;
- Ensuring consistency of message and clarity of voice across our written communications;
- Promoting the use of plain English and helping ensure our corporate communications are of the highest standard;
- Providing advice and guidance to LGA member authorities;
- Assisting the management team in Communications with the smooth and collaborative running of the directorate.
Our ideal candidate will be a communications professional with a real flair for the written word, and an ability to communicate complex issues to different audiences. You will need experience of working in a political environment, where you will have written high quality speeches, comment pieces and to be experienced provided briefings for parliamentary and other political engagements. You will have a track record of working under pressure to cut through the detail and find the story that needs to be told.
As a trusted adviser to our senior politicians and management team, you will have excellent personal and influencing skills. A thorough understanding of the major issues facing local government and the way it works is imperative. The successful applicant will work closely with all parts of the Communications Directorate, particularly public affairs and media, to ensure consistency of message and the pursuit of lobbying objectives through speaking opportunities.
