We are looking for a Policy Advisor for the London offices of a well established and highly regarded membership body.

Role description

Policy Advisor will have the following responsibilities/duties:

  • The purpose of the role is to build common positions on responsible sourcing and promote the positive role their members are playing in improving supply chains. You will need to co-ordinate their response to challenges from government and NGO's in tacking supply chain issues such as resource efficiency, deforestation and ethical labour;
  • Develop and deliver their sustainable and ethical trade policies;
  • Development of strategies and campaigns e.g responsible sourcing of materials including palm oil, soya, timber, fish, wool and cotton;
  • Contribute to the wider sustainability and responsibility agenda;
  • Produce briefing papers, policy documents, newsletters and other written communications;
  • Make presentations to industry and stakeholder conferences and meetings, and to the media to advance their policies;
  • Prepare responses to UK and EU government consultations;
  • Stakeholder relations: lobbying and managing existing and develop new effective working relations with key stakeholders within central government so they are seen as a trusted partner.

Who we're looking for

Policy Advisor will have the following skills/attributes:

  • Will need to be a self starter with the initiative to get to grips with their members' businesses and operations and relate this to the development of appropriate opportunities for raising their profile;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legislation and current policy framework relating to sustainable and ethical issues;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current supply chain controls, including standards for sourcing and ethical labour auditing;
  • Able to demonstrate the ability and credibility to work alongside senior management and build strong relationships with external stakeholders including government officials, business organisations and NGOs;
  • An excellent communicator, with the ability to convey complex issues to a range of audiences.
