A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Policy Manager with major transport business. You will:

  • Identify and own the relevant analysis required on the impact of policy proposals on both the current portfolio and the wider market to ensure an evidence based approach to policy making;
  • Clearly link policy decisions to commercial performance;
  • Develop relationships at across key internal and external stakeholder groups and be recognised as a policy expert across the rail industry, influencing the direction of UK rail strategy;
  • Own the link between policy and strategy so that potential future policy is reflected in strategic planning;
  • Act as the key conduit between policy making and strategic planning both centrally and across the TOCs ensuring the policy developments are well understood and reflected in medium to long term planning;
  • Provide analysis and advice and up to date information to the leadership team regarding industry policy, policy developments and potential impact;
  • Advise on the future direction of policy and impact on franchise bids in the context of the regulatory environment to deliver maximum value;
  • Work alongside the Public Affairs team in their engagement with key decision makers in central and devolved governments, the regulator, and key thought leadership groups through the provision of clear positions on key policy topics;
  • Develop responses to industry consultations, liaising across senior stakeholders to develop a consensus positions.

You will have:

  • Working knowledge of the current policy and regulatory environment. Experience of working in the rail industry would be desirable;
  • Capability of high level strategic thinking and situational analysis;
  • Excellent stakeholder and influencing skills and ability to build a solid network;
  • Proven track record of developing creative solutions to address policy requirements;
  • Experience of engaging and collaborating with key government and policy making bodies within the industry beneficial but not essential;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate confidence and sensitivity in both oral and written communication and relationship management;
  • Pro-active self-starter keen to make change in challenging political environment.
