At Ofsted, we’ve got a lot to talk about. Our remit spans education, childcare, children’s social care and learning and skills inspections, so our work is often in the public eye. It affects everyone, because it’s all about raising standards and improving lives. Right now, we’re making exciting changes. From new quality frameworks, to more powerful inspections, we’re working more effectively than ever. You’ll make sure we send the right messages clearly to diverse audiences.

In this varied and vital role, you’ll enjoy responsibilities spanning our Press Office and Parliamentary Affairs teams. In the busy and fast paced Press Office, you’ll provide both proactive and reactive media handling - from writing press notices and articles, through to organising media briefings, advising senior staff on presentational issues, and responding to journalists’ enquiries. What’s more, you’ll draw up and implement media plans, and contribute to strategic planning. Your Parliamentary Affairs duties will include managing Ofsted’s responses to Parliamentary Questions, providing briefing materials for key meetings and parliamentary events, and attending Select Committees. You’ll also monitor Ofsted related activity in parliament and local government.

To join us, you’ll need a range of relevant experience including developing press releases, dealing with media enquiries, and using the full range of media channels. Knowledge of both the media and political landscapes, including an understanding of government and its agencies, is essential. Experience of forging strong contacts and managing stakeholders in a public affairs context will be an advantage. You’ll certainly demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation and relationship building skills, with an organised and flexible approach. Please note, we’ll expect you to join an out of hours duty rota, with an on call allowance and overtime available where appropriate.
