About The Kennel Club
Formed in 1873, The Kennel Club celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. We exist to make a positive difference for dogs and their owners. Our key areas of activity include:
- Helping potential dog owners find the right dog for them, and working with the dog breeding community to ensure those dogs are healthy and happy;
- Supporting dog owners to access high quality training and pet insurance, whilst providing a range of advice and support to help ensure the ongoing wellbeing of dogs;
- Working with breeders, judges, competitors and exhibitors to organise world- class events and developing the resources they need to thrive.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A university degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience;
- An interest in Public Affairs work;
- Social media knowledge, including Twitter;
- Good organisational abilities;
- Excellent communications skills, written and verbal;
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft packages.
We are looking for a Public Affairs Assistant who is a pro-active and enthusiastic team player and able to work well in a busy environment. You will have had either previous work experience or employment within a Public Affairs environment.
What the role involves:
- Assisting, developing and delivering public affairs strategies and plans;
- Delivering professional public affairs campaigns to the Westminster Parliament, the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly;
- Promoting The Kennel Club generally in Parliament and the Devolved Administrations;
- Leading on local lobbying campaigns relating to access for dog walkers;
- Assisting in organising parliamentary or related events and attend parliamentary and external meetings as necessary;
- Writing regular content for internal publications;
- Uploading related content to websites;
- Developing content for The Kennel Club Public Affairs team’s Twitter account;
- Undertaking research, correspondence and telephone enquiries;
- To assist in the administration of press facilities and the manning of stands for events;
- To complete any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post.
