As our innovative, savvy and influential Senior Government Relations Adviser you'll build Save the Children UK’s profile, credibility and influence with UK politicians, political parties and opinion formers, helping bring about policies and practices that deliver immediate and lasting improvements to children’s lives worldwide.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Advocacy and Policy department is where we drive political agendas at national and global levels. We’ve integrated lobbying, policy, research and campaigning into one agile, powerful engine for change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

Assuming a pivotal role in the department, the Senior Government Relations Adviser will play a central part in shaping our political advocacy on international issues in Westminster - proposing strategies, generating support by recruiting internal and external champions, and working to secure change.

They will also:

  • Maintain an overview of government, parliamentary and political party relations relevant to Save the Children UK's work;
  • Contribute political insight into all SCUK advocacy strategies;
  • Represent us externally, actively networking and building constructive political relationships, and managing our contact with priority figures - creating opportunities to influence processes;
  • Develop and provide regular briefings;
  • Work with team members to ensure that campaigning and advocacy is integrated and consistent.

The ideal candidate will be an all-rounder - instinctively strategic, an impressive multi-tasker and natural networker, someone who's capable of persuading people and delivering results, while also being a detail person. They will have a thorough understanding of parliament, will be adept at managing complex projects and will be able to rapidly draft first-rate correspondence and high-level briefings.

They will additionally have:

  • Impressive experience of developing and delivering successful Westminster advocacy strategies;
  • A strong understanding of key political debates, and the institutional actors and influencers in international development;
  • Operational experience of structures, processes and trends in the UK political system;
  • A proven ability to think strategically, and to develop and deliver flexible and creative lobbying plans;
  • First-rate communication and persuasive skills, and excellent people skills - including experience of supervising, motivating and developing junior staff.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
