The Statistics and Research Officer for the Falkland Islands Government is responsible for providing leadership on social and population data collection, analysis, interpretation and management. On behalf of senior Government and client Departments, this work covers a diverse range of topic areas including health and social care, education, public safety, emergency services, human resources and culture and recreation.
The Role
This role involves working closely with other government departments and recommending and conducting primary and secondary research as required; identifying best practices in other jurisdictions; analysing policy alternatives to recommend fit-for-Falklands solutions; and working with the responsible Directorates to develop benchmarks for national social development.
The post-holder leads on the identification, development and implementation of data collection procedures and methodologies to improve validity and reliability of statistics and data reported by the Falkland Islands Government, including the provision of information in response to the UK Government and international obligations related to UN and other international organisations and conventions.
The post-holder will manage a varied and substantial workload, which will include complex projects and the production of quality outcomes to deadlines. This includes responsibility for the design, development, implementation, integrity and reporting of the national Census every five years.
The role involves managing the Government’s Performance Management system and providing expert guidance and support to other government departments to improve selection and monitoring of operational and strategic indicators.
The Person
The Statistics and Research Officer should hold a post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant social and/or population science discipline with substantial qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistical components, with significant relevant experience in a public sector or research organisation with social and/or population research and statistical analysis responsibility. The person best suited for this position will also have a demonstrated commitment to high quality service delivery and the ability to advise and collaborate with individuals at all levels across government and with external stakeholders.
The Package
- Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years;
- Starting Salary - £39,944 - £46,057 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £49,341;
