We are looking to hire a Senior or Principal Consultant to drive forward our analytical work. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in economic analysis and business case development, and a proven ability to work with high-profile public and private sector clients. This position is technical in nature, with a key focus on further developing our internal data expertise and analytical capability, sharing learning with the wider team, and increasing the range of economic analyses, products and solutions available to our client base.
Candidates are expected to:
- Demonstrable experience working in an analytical role within an economic or engineering consultancy environment (significant experience for Principal Consultant), with a focus on economic impact analysis, business case development and evaluation;
- Excellent understanding of HMT Green Book and Magenta Book and their practical application in real-world projects;
- Extensive track record of delivering socio-economic impact assessment, funding bids, and business cases for a diverse range of projects, including infrastructure, regeneration, housing, and innovation;
- Support and lead others in the team to develop analytical techniques and methodologies;
- Excellent understanding of socio-economic datasets and their strengths and limitations;
- Demonstrable experience of managing and delivering projects from inception through to the submission of final products;
- Have experience of managing client relationships and leading pitch and bid development;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Be able to demonstrate understanding of the current economic policy environment for local economies in the UK.
Key technical capabilities for these roles include:
- Experience of undertaking socio-economic impact analysis;
- Experience of working with clients to make the case for investment using the 5-case model including leading Cost Benefit Analysis;
- Application of impact and economic evaluation methodologies;
- Knowledge and experience of appropriate data analytical tools and programmes.
Typical tasks include:
- Leading project work – e.g. developing written outputs / reports / slidepacks, supporting client presentations, leading analytical work and recommendation development for our broad range of clients;
- Lead and deliver economic assessments, business cases, funding bids and investment strategies for a wide range of projects, including infrastructure, regeneration, housing, and innovation across the UK;
- Leading and supporting proposal writing;
- Managing day-to-day relationships with clients;
- Supporting the development of other colleagues;
- Contributing to shaping internal best practice around business case development and economic assessment;
- Supporting the management activities / administration of the business as required.
Principal Consultants are expected to be able to deliver a wider variety and complexity of projects more independently, with less direct supervision from Project Directors, and make a more significant contribution to business development.
The successful candidate could be based at either our Manchester or London office. There would also be a certain amount of travel around the UK to client meetings.
