Policy making can no longer be held in protected silos. In an increasingly face-paced and joined up world we need to look outside our own comfort zones as we define outcomes, design policy and deliver services. ‘Collaboration’, ‘Partnership’, ‘Crowd-sourcing’ and ‘Co-creation’ are more than buzz words, they are the essential methods by which organisations must learn how to work together.
This highly interactive course will introduce some key principles of effective collaboration and consider how modern technologies and creative approaches can aid us in bringing together varied partners for effective policy making.
This course will suit policy makers from the Public or Third sector (including civil servants, local government officers, NHS, social services, community based charity organisations) or anyone who needs to work with others to deliver outcomes. Participants will be encouraged to bring and share examples of policy development in progress – a live case study will be used to apply learning throughout the day.
By the end of the course participants will:
- Be introduced to a variety of creative and collaborative approaches to policy making.
- Understand the benefits of a creative and collaborative approach over a more traditional top down application model, including being given current examples.
- Have practical models that will help will help apply creative and collaborative approaches.
- Be challenged about integrity of a creative and collaborative approach: why do so many organisations have rhetoric around open policy making, but fail in its delivery? We will look at how to keep an open mind during the consultation and pilot phase.
- Practiced applying the tools to a real world case study and have the opportunity to build and present a persuasive case for their adoption.
