What happens to us if we become too unwell to work? This is a difficult question, one which few of us wish to face. Polling conducted for Demos suggests that large swathes of the UK's working population is dangerously unprepared for such an eventuality - the proportion of British workers insuring their incomes against disability or ill-health is just 8%, compared with close to 30% in the US.
In light of this, we are pleased to host a high-level roundtable event focusing on financial security and resilience in the British workforce. Discussion will be based around the Demos report Opting Up, which explores how improving our collective individual and collective resilience to financial shocks can provide benefits for individuals, employers and the treasury.
Speakers at the event will include
- Dr Bill Gunnyeon, Chief Medical adviser for DWP
- Peter O'Donnell, Chief Executive of Unum UK.
