Peter Duncan has been announced as the new Chairman of APPC Scotland following the organisation’s AGM on Monday (7 July). The Managing Director of Message Matters will replace Illiam Costain McCade of Cogitamus.

The announcement follows the election of Iain Anderson as APPC Chairman in May and the subsequent appointments of Nicholas Lansman and Darren Caplan as Deputy Chairs.

Duncan, who contributed the Week in Scotland to PubAffairs last week, said that as Chairman he is committed to being “fully engaged with the Holyrood process as it moves to consider options for legislation”. He continued: “Now, more than ever, the public needs to understand and trust the role of lobbyists and political consultants, and I’m looking forward to helping APPC in Scotland play a wide role in encouraging that process."

He explained the need to “widen awareness of the APPC role in ensuring transparency, openness and enforcing the highest standards amongst members."

Iain Anderson, Chairman of the APPC, said: "Firstly, I want to put on record a huge thanks to Illiam for all his hard work as APPC Chairman in Scotland. The APPC has benefited immeasurably from his leadership in Scotland and we owe him a great debt.

"I am also, of course, delighted to welcome Peter in his new role as the Chairman of the APPC in Scotland. The APPC now has a new, strong leadership team in place throughout the UK and we're ready to take on the challenges and threats facing our industry north and south of the border as well as continuing to ensure lobbyists uphold high and exemplary ethical standards. I look forward to working with Peter over the coming year which looks set to be a pivotal 12 months for the UK's lobbying industry."
