As Corporate Affairs Advisor you will play a key role in achieving the company’s Public Affairs objectives, taking a leading role in forming relationships with national politicians, regulators, civil servants and thinktanks. Alongside managing relationships with key national stakeholders, you will also help develop policy positions on key regulatory and political issues.
You will work alongside the company’s communications team to manage the company’s reputation, including managing stakeholder and media communications during crisis incidents. Therefore, you will be required to join the communications standby rota which may involve out of hours working on an ad hoc basis.
Some of the main role responsibilities include the following:
- Creates opportunities to enhance the company’s corporate reputation;
- Attends meetings with key national stakeholders, representing the company and building relationships;
- Provides briefings for Directors and senior managers on external matters to ensure the company is aware of changing political and policy environments;
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships across the business;
- Builds and manages relationships with external influencers to build trust and support the company strategic objectives;
- Seeks out risks and devises plans to mitigate them and also opportunities to enhance the company’s reputation.
What are the key sills required for the role?
You will be knowledgeable in regards national political structures, UK Parliamentary and legislative processes and be a specialist in stakeholder engagement with high-level political awareness and knowledge of the changing political scene. You will have had previous experience of working with politicians and senior decision makers/stakeholders. You will be aware of key media and political issues relating to Yorkshire Water and the wider industry.
You will have a proven track record of delivering effective engagement with national stakeholders and have significant experience as a public affairs professional within an agency or in-house environment. You will have a degree level qualification, preferably in politics, communications, economics or public relations.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence and build relationships at all levels and be highly organised, able to plan workloads and manage a range of different projects. You will have strong communication skills, particularly written skills and understand what great communications and engagement looks like with a strong and consistent track record in achieving positive outcomes with regards this. You will have had previous experience of delivering excellent external communications and engagement activities, right from planning through to execution.
You will have resilience and drive to be able to operate in challenging business situations that may arise and have a strong understanding of the principles of great customer service/experience.
You will be required to travel to different operational sites, therefore a valid UK driving licence is required for the role.
Salary: £31,574 - £39,467 per annum dependant on experience + performance bonus + company car + pension + 25 days holiday & 8 Bank Holidays + retail savings scheme.
Location: Bradford (with a hybrid working arrangement in place, a mix of office and home working).
