Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

The Policy Research Unit (PRU) is a pooled research facility for over 100 Conservative MPs based on the Parliamentary Estate.

The PRU team includes Parliamentary Advisers, each of whom specialises in one or more policy areas, providing Parliamentary support for MPs. 

The Parliamentary Adviser team is supported by one or more Correspondence and Briefing Officers, who support those Parliamentary Advisers with the ebb and flow of briefing and correspondence demands, working across the team where the need arises. 

The post of Correspondence and Briefing Officer would suit someone who is highly organised with strong written communication skills, an ability to pick up new subjects quickly and an interest in current affairs.

Key responsibilities

  • To draft and update accurate standard and tailored correspondence to be used by MPs on a range of areas of policy.
  • With guidance from Parliamentary Advisers, to draft accurate briefings on a range of topics for use in Parliament.

Key skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines
  • An interest in politics and a good understanding of current affairs
  • Sympathetic to the views of the Conservative Party and happy to write from the perspective of Conservative parliamentarians 
  • Ability to work with a wide range of colleagues
  • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work flexibly to support colleagues across the team
  • Excellent IT skills including using Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to manage competing demands and prioritise appropriately
  • A high standard of written English, including grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Excellent attention to detail
