Health and Protection products genuinely help people in times of great distress. They help get people back into the workplace after illness, provide a safety net for when they can’t, and ensure families have financial support after the loss of a loved one.
As Policy Adviser, you’ll work as part of a close-knit team to be the face of the ABI in representing our members in the Health and Protection market. You’ll ensure the positive role played by insurers in supporting individuals, households, employers, wider society and the economy is properly represented. Some of your key workstreams will be developing and managing policy initiatives across patient safety, digital health, mental health, and employee health and wellbeing.

- Manage multiple projects, collaborating with members and colleagues to deliver these successfully;
- Facilitate, contribute to and present at ABI committees and workshops;
- Work with colleagues to develop the ABI’s voice and role as an active partner of Government in promoting good mental and physical health by supporting individuals with prevention services and in their return to work following serious illness or injury;
- Ensure ABI members receive clear, relevant and engaging information on our health and protection work and issues, including through a monthly member newsletter and the ABI website.
What skills do you need?
- Experience dealing with complex and emerging policy issues – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail;
- An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions;
- Expert organisation – you can run a project effectively and engage with others to deliver work;
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds;
- Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere;

Please note this is a full-time role but we are open to applications from those who wish to work on a flexible and/or job share basis. In some instances, we may be able to consider part time working. Our working practices may develop and flex over time, but for the time being we are working in a hybrid way on the basis of at least 40% of our time worked in the office.
We welcome applicants who are new to insurance – as well as those who are experts.
When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover we are united in our belief that the best thing about the ABI is the people. We’re hugely proud that 100% of our people feel colleagues within their team respect each other.
