Established in January 2002, PubAffairs is the premier network and leading resource for the public affairs, government relations, policy and communications industry.

The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

NFU Scotland represents over 8,500 farmers, growers, and crofters in Scotland. We work in a fast-paced rural policy landscape to advocate on behalf of our members on all rural affairs issues relating to agriculture.

NFU Scotland is looking for a talented and dynamic Political Affairs Manager to maximise our influence amongst government and parliamentary audiences, in Holyrood and Westminster, ensuring that political decision makers act to support Scottish agriculture. 

Farming is the lifeblood of rural Scotland and has a profound impact on almost every aspect of our lives.  This means that NFU Scotland works across a varied landscape of rural affairs issues from climate change and land reform to international trade and domestic supply chain issues.

NFU Scotland is the ‘go to’ organisation on rural affairs issue, with a proven track record of influence at the highest levels of government.   As our Political Affairs Manager, you will maintain and build on our existing profile to ensure that we have the relationships that will enhance our influence, reputation and profile in Holyrood and Westminster.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in helping to deliver our organisational objectives of achieving a sustainable and profitable future for Scottish agriculture.  This is an exciting and dynamic opportunity to work on live rural affairs issues to help to shape the policy framework under which the agricultural industry operates.

About You

You will be a political communications specialist, with a strong understanding of political process and the strategic landscape.  You will be a strong influencer able to understand and communicate the right message to the right audience, at the right time.  With strong leadership skills, and an eye for detail, you will be able to work at pace within a constantly changing environment managing a varied portfolio of rural affairs subjects.

What’s on offer:

  • Salary up to £40,000 depending on demonstrable experience;
  • This is a permanent contract and is full-time;
  • Flexible working;
  • 38 holiday entitlement per annum (including Bank Holidays);
  • Generous contributed pension;
  • Free onsite parking.

You will be based in NFU Scotland’s Head Office in Ingliston (near Edinburgh Airport), with regular travel throughout Scotland and the UK. Under current guidelines, you would be working from home and flexible working arrangements can be agreed.
