The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The Corporate Communications team at Scotia Gas Networks manages media relations, government affairs, internal communications, sponsorships and community involvement. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager to lead our work on Government policy and public affairs.

Based in London, Horley, Edinburgh or Glasgow, and reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, your role will focus on the future of the gas network and the impacts of policy and legislative changes on the business. Work areas include:

  • The impact of low carbon development on the network;
  • Support mechanisms for new sources of gas.

Your responsibilities will include reporting to the company leadership team, CEO and company board. You will inform company decision making at the highest levels by providing sound and objective advice. As part of your role you will undertake policy analysis, develop policy positions, draft policy responses to government and monitor political developments.

As an ambassador for SGN, you will also be responsible for briefing internal and external audiences on relevant policy developments; developing and managing relationships with key policy influencers to support the process of policy development; and attending and organising stakeholder events as an SGN representative. You will also be required to manage engagement with parliamentarians when required.

You will have a proven track record of managing and influencing in a policy development environment, combined with a detailed understanding of the areas outlined above through relevant work experience. You will have excellent communication skills which will assist you in communicating complex policy ideas and concepts and developing enduring relationships.

You should also be educated to degree and a relevant MSc qualification or equivalent is preferred. Frequent national travel will be required.
