A unique challenge

This is one of the most interesting and exciting communications roles in the country. It places you at the heart of a large and complex organisation at a time of critical change for the UK. You will advise Ministers on some of the most high profile and at times controversial issues in Government. You will help develop our communications strategy and build support for major projects such as HS2, London airport expansion and the Northern Powerhouse. You will also immediately work closely with the major transport industry players as we prepare to exit the EU.

Impacting on the lives of millions

Working for the Department for Transport means impacting on the life of all our citizens daily through the various modes of transport we support. We also play a pivotal role in promoting the growth of the UK economy; planning and delivering excellent transport infrastructure, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs, and bringing the country closer together. We help keep Britain in the forefront of the transport technological revolution, stimulating growth and innovation. Our major projects will still be making a difference to people’s lives a century from now and beyond.

The right candidate

You will bring a track record in designing and implementing compelling communications and public affairs strategies in a complex and high-profile environment. You will have experience of leading and developing high-performing teams and creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. As important will be your excellent political nous, sound professional judgement and the ability to command the confidence of a range of diverse and at times highly challenging stakeholders.
