Join the Network

This is your opportunity to join one of Britain’s most interesting and exciting communications teams at a time of significant Government investment in the nation’s transport infrastructure.

We are undertaking the biggest modernisation programme for a generation, bringing our transport system into the 21st Century. We are already delivering better transport that works for everyone in Britain, and there is more to come. The Department for Transport cannot deliver this on its own. We need to work effectively with our partners, explain our plans and priorities, and listen, understand and respond to our stakeholders.

As Deputy Head of External Affairs, you will lead a small team responsible for delivering our stakeholder engagement strategy. You will be responsible for developing stakeholder handing and engagement strategies for some of the most high profile issues in Government, advising Ministers and our Executive Committee. You will need to think strategically, assessing risks and opportunities, and represent the Department at a senior level with external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in external affairs, government relations and stakeholder engagement. You will have the confidence to work alongside Ministers, strong influencing skills and the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands. You will be committed to delivering world-class communications and championing best practice stakeholder engagement.

Transport experience is not essential.
