The Art Fund is the national fundraising charity for the visual arts and plays a major part in enriching the range and quality of art on public display in the UK. We give grants to help museums and galleries all across the UK the buy, show and share great art so that it can be experienced and enjoyed by everyone. We have done this for over 100 years – not through state funding, but by mobilising the passions and resources of art lovers throughout the UK. Their contributions, large and small, provide our income.

As an independent charity committed to supporting a vibrant museums sector we have always worked hard behind the scenes and with a variety of other partners across the museums sector, government and cultural and creative industries to further the interests of museums and their collections, the people who care for them, and the millions of museum visitors across the UK. This can mean commissioning and publishing research, developing new grant-making programmes, or campaigning for a change to the law. Notable successes include lobbying for and working with the Government to secure free admission to UK museums in 2001 and the implementation of the Cultural Gifts Scheme in 2011.

We are now seeking dedicated and resourceful individual with a background in policy research and public affairs to support the Director, the Head of Programmes, and other senior staff in driving and shaping the organisation’s policy agenda, and managing and developing relationships with individuals and organisations across the museums and wider cultural sectors, as well as with MPs and Government departments. The successful candidate will have excellent political antennae, used to working with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, and a real interest in museums and cultural policy, with both the ability to see the bigger picture and an eye for the small but important details.
