The Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) represents the private sector manufacturers of plasma-derived and recombinant analog therapies, collectively known as plasma protein therapies and the collectors of source plasma used for fractionation. These therapies are used by patients worldwide to treat a variety of diseases and serious medical conditions. PPTA member companies produce approximately 80% of the plasma protein therapies in the U.S. and 60% of those manufactured in Europe.

PPTA works globally to:

  • Advocate for access to and affordability of therapies for patients;
  • Engage in constructive dialogue with regulatory agencies;
  • Collaborate with patient advocacy organizations.

PPTA also administers standards and programs that help ensure the quality and safety of plasma collection and manufacturing and protect both donors and patients.

PPTA Europe is actively engaged in setting advocacy and priority initiatives for improving access to care to plasma protein therapies at both the European Union level and within member states. Staff monitors legislative and policy developments related to the sector of plasma protein therapies, including, but not limited to, plasma collection, manufacturing, safety and quality.

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, Germany, will manage the activities of PPTA in Germany and support the PPTA Deutschland Board of Directors; work with PPTA staff and members to successfully implement PPTA Deutschland’s public affairs and political outreach programme in Germany; assist in raising the profile of the plasma protein therapeutics industry among policy-makers in Germany; advocate for the uniqueness of plasma protein therapies as the basis for improving government funding for rare diseases and conditions treated with these therapies; and manage the association’s Find-ID program, a program to increase awareness for primary immune deficiencies (PID) treated with plasma protein therapies.

Profile:

Education

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in economics, biology or other life science or public policy degrees.

Experience

  • Proven experience in public affairs or political advocacy role, ideally in the German health care or pharmaceutical sector;
  • Familiarity with German parliament and health authorities;
  • Experience in building relationships with key health care policy stakeholder groups;
  • Experience in developing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • German native language;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and presentation skills in both English and German;
  • Willingness to travel, 40% travel;
  • Team player, ability to work in a matrix structure;
  • Strategic thinker.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the substance and strategy regarding all PPTA health policy priorities. Work with the Executive Director Europe and other senior staff to develop advocacy strategies on access and reimbursement issues specifically in Germany;
  • Manage the activities of PPTA in Germany and support the PPTA Deutschland Board of Directors, by supporting the successful implementation PPTA Deutschland’s public affairs and political outreach program in Germany;
    • Staff liaison to PPTA Deutschland Board of Directors;
    • Establish and maintain effective collaboration with member of the PPTA Deutschland Board;
    • Develop, facilitate and implement strategy plan in alignment with the global PPTA activities;
    • Understand and utilize health technology assessments and health care economic data available to PPTA;
  • Positively impact national reimbursement policies that will advance patient and physician access to and choice of life-saving plasma proteins;
    • Identify, develop and maintain partnerships with key policy makers;
    • Monitor policy activity, develop and implement advocacy plan with team;
    • Work with team to develop and communicate key messages to stakeholders;
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with patient advocacy groups to understand their needs and positions related to access to care;
  • Manage Find-ID, a program to increase awareness for primary immune deficiencies (PID) treated with plasma protein therapies;
    • Identify and map relevant health care providers;
    • Communicate FIND-ID program objectives to create awareness for PID, and encourage them to refer their patients to established and specialized PID centers;
    • Track and report progress to internal and external stakeholders;
    • Network with physician and patients groups to promote FIND-ID;
  • Work closely with the Executive Director Europe and other PPTA staff to build a “team-approach” to achieving the objectives of the Association;
  • Adhere to PPTA’s documentation and document management policies.
