This course aims to detail the workings of the UK Parliament, demystify the language and procedures and explore its powers and functions.
The UK Parliament is often discredited and criticised in the media, with new political dramas playing out every week. Through this it can be difficult to acquire a comprehensive understanding of this historic institution and how it functions when outside the spotlight.
This course looks beyond the duck houses to offer delegates a thorough explanation of what Parliament is and how it operates, covering General Elections, the role of Members of Parliament and the House of Lords, and the day-to-day running of both Houses. By understanding how topics reach the floor for debate and how they are dealt with, attendees will obtain an invaluable knowledge to ensure their issues progress. This highly complex environment will be clearly laid out through a series of sessions and hands-on exercises that place delegates in the position of the Members themselves.
