This course seeks to provide insight into how Parliament, considers, amends and passes legislation introduced by government or by private members (MPs and Peers).
In order to make a lasting and meaningful impact on UK law it is crucial to understand more than how to influence the key decision-makers. Bills have a long life from proposal to passing (if they pass at all) and few ever see the light of day in the form they first took. To ensure your agenda endures these vigorous processes and reaches Commencement you will need a thorough knowledge of each step along the way, from proposal to Royal Assent.
Delegates will consider how best they should engage with parliamentarians and at what stage in the legislative cycle in order to have maximum impact on the bill. Through a series of sessions and hands-on exercises, they will understand the various ways a Bill is created and how it is scrutinised all the way to its passing into law.
