The Policy Fellowship Programme offers senior decision makers from government, industry and the third sector the chance to renew and reinvigorate their thinking by spending time with world class academics at the University of Bath.

A tailored schedule of one to one meetings with relevant researchers, spread over two to three days, allows Fellows to explore in depth and from new perspectives the policy questions they are addressing in their day to day roles.

Over the course of their visits, Fellows will be able to shape their programme to focus in on particular areas, to deepen discussions with particular academics or to explore new avenues of research.

It is hoped that these conversations will provide the foundations for an ongoing relationship between the University, the Fellow and their organisation, leading to collaboration on lectures, events and research projects, and encouraging the integration of current expert thinking into major policy decisions.

Key features

  • The Policy Fellowship Programme is open to senior decision makers from government, third sector and business organisations in the UK and internationally;
  • The programme is tailored to the needs of each participant, with Fellows submitting a set of 6-8 policy questions that they’d like to explore with University academics;
  • Fellows are invited to spend two to three days at the University (either taken together or spread over multiple visits), meeting one-to-one with relevant academics;
  • An experienced academic lead will help each Fellow to contextualise the information they gather during their meetings;
  • After the initial series of visits, we will work with Fellows to develop their relationship with the University through a range of activities which might include lectures, seminars, joint research, or return visits by University staff to the Fellow’s organisation.

Our strengths

  • Located on an award-winning campus overlooking the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath, the University of Bath has a vibrant research culture driven by the enthusiasm and invention of our academic community;
  • The Policy Fellowship Programme enables Fellows to draw on our strengths across all faculties: Science; Engineering & Design; Humanities & Social Sciences; and the School of Management;
  • Our interdisciplinary, world-class research benefits from the strong network of UK and international academic partners, businesses, voluntary and public sector bodies with whom we collaborate;
  • This interdisciplinary approach is helping to shape policy, deliver healthcare, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, provide practical low-carbon solutions to our energy needs, and develop the materials for the future.

We welcome applications from third sector organisations and from policy professionals in industry who are addressing challenges of public, rather than commercial, interest.

Applications can be submitted at any time, and there is no charge for participation, although places are limited.
