This training course will provide an extensive outline of the main structures and processes of the Scottish Parliament and Government post the Referendum.

Hear first-hand experience, listen, question and discuss the fundamental issues that surround the Scottish Parliamentary and Governmental processes and benefit from an improved understanding.

This course will benefit those who need to gain a deeper understanding of how the Scottish Parliamentary and Governmental processes work, those who may come into contact with this process, or work in an environment which is directly or indirectly related to this.

By attending this course delegates will:

  • Gain an understanding of the working of the Scottish Parliament and Government
  • Explore the role of an MSP
  • Understand the legislative process in Scotland
  • Discuss decision making powers in Scotland, including the relationship to Westminster

Speaker: Professor James Mitchell - Chair in Public Policy, University of Edinburgh

James Mitchell holds the chair in public policy in the University of Edinburgh. He is based in the School of Social and Political Science having previously held in Strathclyde and Sheffield Universities. He is a graduate of Aberdeen and Oxford Universities. He has published widely in the fields of public policy, devolution, UK and Scottish government and politics, including electoral politics. He was a member of the Christie Commission on the Delivery of Public Policy in Scotland.
