Fishburn have published Countdown to 2015: a guide to the Conservatives which takes a detailed look at “the new centres of power that are emerging and how the Party will make policy”, as it switches from coalition to campaign mode over the coming months.

With the general election campaign underway, the guide examines how policymaking is set to become more volatile for the remainder of the coalition. The publication considers:

  • The evolving formal and informal policy development structures.
  • The people shaping the Party’s policymaking process and the next manifesto, including a ‘who’s who’ of Team Cameron and Team Osborne.
  • How the challenges facing a Conservative victory are influencing the Party’s approach.

Furthermore, it identifies ways to engage with the policymaking process, from the repoliticised No 10 Policy Unit and the Parliamentary Policy Board, through to the less well known 1922 Committee backbench policy groups and the recently formed Policy Commissions.

Rory Scanlan, Director of Public Affairs at Fishburn, commented: “This is a pivotal period for Conservative policymaking.  With the countdown to next year’s general election underway, we’re entering a new phase of the Coalition. Much of the Party’s heavy lifting on policy development will happen before the summer. So it’s crucial for organisations to understand the evolving Conservative policymaking process, which will influence both the remainder of the Coalition and manifesto development.”
