The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) has announced the appointment of Ellen Daniels as its first chief executive officer.

Ellen joined the association on 1st June following a successful tenure as CEO of the British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA), where she led a period of significant organisational growth, strengthened member engagement and helped shape policy across a range of regulatory, environmental and industry issues.

An award-winning trade association leader, Ellen was named in the Trade Association Forum’s Women in Trade Associations Power List 2025 and Management Today’s 35 Under 35. She brings more than 11 years’ experience operating at the intersection of industry, government and regulation, with a strong track record in policy development, stakeholder engagement and strategic leadership.

At BCGA, Ellen led the development of the organisation’s first-ever strategic roadmap, modernised its branding and digital presence, and expanded member engagement and retention to more than 95%. Her experience also includes senior public affairs and policy roles at the British Coatings Federation, where she worked extensively on sustainability, chemicals regulation and manufacturing policy.

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for the foodservice packaging sector, with the industry continuing to navigate significant environmental, regulatory and economic change, including the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Simpler Recycling reforms and wider sustainability challenges.

On behalf of the FPA Board, FPA interim executive chair Paul Synnott said:

“We are delighted to welcome Ellen to the Foodservice Packaging Association. She brings with her a wealth of experience in leading technical trade associations, shaping policy and building trusted relationships with government and industry stakeholders.

“The FPA Board was particularly impressed by Ellen’s strategic vision, leadership credentials and ability to represent complex sectors undergoing significant regulatory change. These qualities will be invaluable as the FPA continues to support members through a rapidly evolving policy landscape.

“Earlier this year, the association agreed an ambitious strategic plan focused on strengthening member value, enhancing industry representation and supporting the sector through major legislative and environmental change. Ellen will play a central role in taking that strategy forward and helping to shape the future direction of the association”.

Commenting on her appointment, Ellen Daniels said:

“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Foodservice Packaging Association at such an important time for the sector. The industry is facing both significant challenges and major opportunities as businesses adapt to evolving environmental expectations, changing regulation and increasing public scrutiny.

“The FPA has an important role to play in ensuring members’ voices are heard, supporting informed and evidence-based policy development, and championing the essential contribution that foodservice packaging businesses make to the wider economy and society.

“I look forward to working closely with the FPA Board, members and stakeholders to build on the strong foundations already in place and to help deliver the association’s strategic priorities in the years ahead”.
