The Director of Policy and Economic Development for the Falkland Islands Government acts as the principal advisor responsible for the delivery of high quality, evidence-based and responsive economic, political and social policy, research, advice, strategy and policies to support the objectives of the Government and deliver priorities of the Islands Plan.

The Role

You will provide leadership to a team of professionals in the production of a responsive service of strategic advice and analysis to the Chief Executive, Members of the Legislative Assembly and the Corporate Management Team, including complex, politically sensitive, contentious or controversial issues.

You will also champion policies and regulations to ensure the robust and regular collection and management of data throughout government to enable compilation of key national statistics including population health, economic performance, public safety, etc. and as a member of the Corporate Management Team, you will participate in the corporate and strategic management of the Government, working to ensure that the Government is pursuing a coherent and practical strategy in line with political priorities.

Your collaborative approach, political acumen, people management skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels within government and the community will help you succeed and thrive in this fast-paced environment.

You will have a substantial experience delivering complex, solution-oriented policy analysis and development, ideally in a public sector environment as well as senior management experience preferably in a government or agency setting. A degree or specialist training in economics, business, public affairs, political or social sciences is a requirement, as is evidence of strong communications and analytical skills.  The ability to quickly develop a high degree of national and international political awareness concerning the Falkland Islands will be a necessity.

The Package

  • Maximum - 4 Year Fixed Term Contract;
  • Salary Range, basic starting salary £75k up to £84k per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience;
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract;
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave);
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs;
  • Flights Package for you and recognised dependents at the beginning and end of contract, and additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract;
