We are the leading national charity working with single parent families. Since 1918, we have been at the forefront of shaping policy and services that support single parents. Today, there are two million single parent families in the country. We champion their voices and keep their needs at the heart of everything we do.
We want a society in which single parent families are treated equally and fairly.
To get there, we provide information to help single parents support themselves and their families through our information pages, helpline, forum, and peer support groups. To create lasting change, we campaign and influence policy to reduce the stigma against single parents and make services more accessible to all families – whatever their shape or size.
Overall purpose
The Policy Lead will play a crucial part in helping Gingerbread deliver our influencing objectives as part of our new organisational strategy, enabling us to achieve our vision for a single parent and their children to thrive.
Providing expertise on key areas of policy and monitoring emerging changes in policy, practice, and legislation, you will build and maintain effective strategic relationships with civil servants, third sector partners and other key stakeholders to make policy proposals a reality.
Working closely with the Campaigns Officer, Head of Policy and Campaigns, and Services and Marketing and Communications teams, you will research and develop innovative policy solutions and deliver effective influencing strategies which will make a difference to the UK’s 2 million single parents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. You will need to be able to clearly and effectively communicate Gingerbread’s positions in briefings, consultation submissions, speeches, and policy reports.
