The Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS) is a mutual organisation providing healthcare professionals across the UK with access to indemnity, expert advice and support.

The role

We’re looking for a well-connected and creative Public Affairs Manager to drive awareness and engagement at Westminster and with our stakeholders on behalf of our 50,000+ doctor and dentist members.

You’ll support the Head of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications to develop and manage MDDUS’ policy influencing and advocacy strategies. You’ll also build relationships with key policy makers, healthcare regulators and pressure groups, as well as increasing our lobbying impact.

With access to MDDUS’ senior team and support from a small, dynamic public affairs team, you’ll play a key role in growing understanding of MDDUS’ mission and aims amongst MPs and Ministers. You’ll play an important role in strengthening our position as a leading voice in defending the professional interests of doctors and dentists and to respond wherever necessary to policy, legislation and political debate as it impacts upon MDDUS.

The person

Our ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and our Executive Committee in support of MDDUS’ mission and goals. Demonstrable experience of translating often complex and detailed policy positions into accessible and engaging communications is vital to help us achieve understanding and support of them with our key stakeholders.

With a keen understanding of ethical lobbying practices, we seek someone who is a digital-first strategic thinker with strong organisational and planning skills who can juggle multiple projects in a fast moving and interesting area of the health delivery landscape.
