The Conservative Environment Network (CEN) is the home for conservatives who support responsible environmental leadership. We are looking for a dynamic and driven senior campaigns manager to harness support for CEN’s ideas from across the conservative movement.

As we develop new conservative policy ideas to tackle climate change and restore nature, we need to take conservatives with us and build on CEN’s proud record of influencing thinking on the environment. This role is crucial in promoting CEN’s work and securing political support for it.

The successful candidate will work across CEN’s networks, with a particular focus on our parliamentary caucus, to campaign for positive environmental changes. We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate a strong track record of campaigning on the centre-right, with an enthusiasm for working on the environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute campaigns to engage CEN’s networks and promote our policy recommendations
  • Work with the CEN caucus on environmental campaigns in Parliament, by suggesting ideas for questions, debates, and legislation
  • Coordinate the CEN team on campaigns, including briefing on campaign topics and finding ways to bring in other team members
  • Engage and build relationships with parliamentarians, think tankers, pressure groups, charities, councillors, and other stakeholders to get their support for CEN’s campaigns
  • Support the framing of CEN’s programme of webinars, dinners, and other events to drive forward CEN’s campaigns
  • Work with the communications team to identify ways to drive forward CEN’s campaigns in the media and on social media, as well as on the CEN website
  • Act as a spokesperson for CEN’s campaigns on social media, in print, and on broadcast

Required experience and skills:

  • Demonstrable experience working in politics and/or campaigns, and at least five years’ professional experience overall
  • An extensive network of conservatives across the UK at all levels of government and the ability to form successful working relationships both within CEN and with external stakeholders in Parliament, the Conservative Party, and the environmental movement
  • A strong understanding of how MPs and Parliament work, including experience of writing briefings, drafting written and oral questions, and amendments to legislation
  • A good understanding of harnessing social media for campaigns
  • Ability to work independently and a strong sense of initiative for spotting growth opportunities
  • Deep belief in CEN’s core mission and values and a desire to advance environmentalism on the UK right-of-centre
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce compelling and concise written output
  • A curious and keen intellect and a willingness to learn and develop different skills

Desired experience and skills:

  • Previous experience in the climate and nature space
  • Experience of appearing on broadcast media
  • A strong social media following
  • A strong understanding of how local government and councillors work
  • Benefits of working at CEN
  • 25 days of annual leave entitlement, increasing with length of service
  • Office closure between Christmas and New Year
  • One day of volunteering leave per year
  • 5% of monthly salary contributed by CEN into our pension scheme
  • A comprehensive learning and development package, with opportunities for learning new skills and expanding knowledge
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Season ticket loan scheme
  • Hybrid and flexible working options available
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and compassionate leave policies
  • Unlimited bean to cup coffee and unlimited teas
