The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The PubAffairs e-Newsletters are used to keep members informed about upcoming PubAffairs events and networking opportunities, job vacancies, public affairs news, training courses, stakeholder events, publications, discount offers and other pieces of useful information related to the public affairs and communications industry.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Stakeholder Engagement Officers to join the Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement team, here at TfL. You will be responsible for supporting TfL’s stakeholder engagement within the business community to support the Capital’s economic growth and secure advocates for TfL’s policies and future investment priorities.

You will be required to give insight and counsel to senior management to maintain and secure the support of this influential stakeholder group. Public Affairs and/or communications experience is essential, as is an ability to quickly grasp and articulate complex policy issues, and problem solve.

You’ll be part of a small team that account manages TfL's relationship with key business lobby groups and Business Improvement Districts.

Accountabilities:

  • As part of the Business Engagement Strategy, support the Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Business to manage and maintain our corporate relationship with London’s key business groups and the Business Improvement Districts;
  • Engage with the business community through timely and tailored stakeholder communications, including leading meetings, giving presentations, drafting and sending email bulletins and social media;
  • Day to day responsibility for responding to requests for assistance and information from the wider business community and help to ensure business engagement is aligned with the strategy by working closely with key stakeholders;
  • Support our engagement with leading larger individual businesses and SMEs;
  • Provide political intelligence to senior management on issues related to London’s business community, for example through internal briefings on reports produced by business stakeholders;
  • Write and produce speeches and briefings for the Commissioner, Managing Directors and Senior Officers to give on public platforms to a business audience, for example conferences, breakfast briefings hosted by key business stakeholders;
  • Take responsibility for the stakeholder engagement elements of marketing campaigns and major projects such as, but not limited to, Night Tube, Visitor Experience and the Road Modernisation Plan.

Knowledge:

  • You should be educated to degree level (preferably in Politics or Corporate Communications) and/or hold relevant experience (essential);
  • An understanding of TfL’s priorities (desirable);
  • Sound understanding of the current economic climate and business issues and priorities (essential);
  • Some knowledge of the London business networks, from strategic organisations to locally-focused groups, would be advantageous (desirable).

Skills:

  • Politically astute and sound awareness of key policy issues affecting transport decisions in London and third party advocacy;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Good influencing, networking and relationship building skills;
  • Ability to produce and assimilate concise and coherent pieces of research, briefings etc on complex issues to tight deadlines;
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a mainstream public affairs or communications environment dealing with multiple stakeholder audiences would be advantageous;
  • Experience of working in a political environment, or specifically within the transport sector would be an advantage;
  • Experience of Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Project and Excel.
