Shaping the future of energy
A leading voice in Europe, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) is the regulator for Britain’s gas and electricity industries which have a turnover of £36 billion. Our role is to protect consumers and enable them to secure value for money and benefit from reliable supplies.
This is a unique opportunity and a varied role with responsibilities in advising on the development of the arrangements for the new European Agency and in assisting in the implementation of the new European energy legislation. Working in London, possibly with frequent European travel, you will also prepare briefings for senior staff on European energy issues, including Lord Mogg for his role as Chair of the European Energy Regulators Group.
Tactful, diplomatic and tenacious, you will have the ability to build and develop strong and successful relationships in Europe. You will work closely with other European Regulators and will represent Ofgem in working level meetings of Energy Regulators.
Educated to degree level, you will possess experience in European Policy and in preparing briefings for senior staff. It is essential that you have a very high standard of written and spoken English and a good knowledge of European institutions and policy-making. Good knowledge of another European language and of the energy industry would be desirable. However, European policy-making experience, combined with experience in briefing at a senior level, is more important than detailed energy knowledge.
What we offer you: • 30 days annual leave, after two years • excellent training and development opportunities • the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits • flexible working hours and family friendly policies • subsidised gym and restaurant • interest free season ticket loan • an excellent working environment.
