Delivering the Skills for Future Prosperity: The Future of Apprenticeships in England

In response to the Richards Review into the Future of Apprenticeships in England the government published, in October 2013, the Future of Apprenticeships in England: implementation plan.

The new focus will see employers, working with professional bodies, firmly in the driving seat in defining what skills are needed in occupations and in setting standards. The government will maintain responsibility for ensuring Apprenticeships are high quality, which are transferable to justify public investment.

The new framework will also require all apprentices to achieve a certain standard in English and Maths this reflects the importance of both of these skills to apprentice’s employability. One key element to this is ensuring schools equip young people with good English and maths skills and that Level 2 in both of these subjects is obtained before leaving formal education.

The shift to employer-led apprenticeships will enhance employer engagement in design and delivery of assessment and increase employer buy-in into the value of apprenticeships for the individual, the employer and the economy as a whole.

Given the changes to apprenticeships in England, as briefly mentioned above, Policy Knowledge is pleased to Delivering the Skills for Future Prosperity: The Future of Apprenticeships in England policy briefing. This one day event will provide all those working with or alongside apprenticeship provision in England with a timely opportunity to gain an insight into the government’s proposals.
