Creating a Positive Environment for Learning: Improving Behaviour in Schools

'We have to ensure that standards of behaviour are found in all our schools. Good behaviour is non negotiable; it is not a take it or leave it part of education. Without it teachers are unable to do their job properly and children spend what should be a happy and exciting time being bored and frightened."
Charlie Taylor, Expert Advisor on Behaviour to the Secretary of State for Education

It is important that children attend school and are well behaved if good academic attainment is to be achieved. This important event will provide school leaders, teachers and other stakeholders involved with education the opportunity to discuss the issues of behaviour and discipline and best practice approaches to improve attainment, attendance and behaviour in schools.

This important event will discuss key issues including:

  • Providing professional development to all teachers to assist them in directly affecting a child’s behaviour
  • Reducing the number of children excluded from school due to behavioural problems
  • Tackling bullying and cyber bullying in and outside of school
  • The benefits of using technology in the classroom to positively affect behaviour
  • Tackling illegal exclusions and inequalities in exclusion rates
  • Addressing behavioural issues for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
