On the 25th May partners Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope (ELoH) and PLMR will be organising a charity football tournament at West Ham United’s famous Upton Park stadium with the aim of raising money for vulnerable amputee children in West Africa.
The Tournament and the Players
The day will run from 3.30pm – 10.00pm and will consist of three parts:
- A junior tournament from 3.30pm to 4.45pm with 4 teams of 7-10 year olds and 4 teams of 11-14 year olds.
- A child amputee match from 4.45pm to 5.20pm, with two teams of 7 a-side.
- A senior tournament from 5.30pm to10.00pm with six adult football teams, including a corporate team.
The money we raise will have a direct impact on the lives of amputee children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. For example:
- £1 pays for materials for one person for a Family Business Scheme training session (pen, notebook, printouts)
- £5 will pay to transport one beneficiary to and from clinics where they receive life-saving treatment (often from rural, difficult to access places)
- £30 pays for an amputee child’s first year of school fees
- £100 pays for a family business grants and training package that will develop a sustainable family business that can support an amputee child’s upbringing as well as the entire family
- £315 pays for a lifesaving surgery – for example bone-trimming
- £500 pays for one child’s participation in the Sierra Leone project for one year, covering everything mentioned above, from medical to educational support
- £1250 pays the salary of a social worker who delivers vital counselling to amputee children (£100/month)
