GK Strategy is appointing a new Adviser to its specialist policy research practice. The Adviser will support the delivery of outstanding political, policy and regulatory due diligence reports and government relations strategies for our private equity investor client base. No prior knowledge or experience relating to private equity or investment banking is required for this role.

The Adviser will support the functioning and growth of GK through providing robustly researched, client-ready analysis across a range of policy areas including education, health and social care, energy, infrastructure and financial services.

Job Description

The position will be based in GK’s Insights practice. The Insights practice works with a range of mid-market private equity firms to support their investment activity. We advise on political, policy and regulatory risk across a range of highly regulated sectors during transaction processes, with a particular focus on education and health and social care.

Our team prepares comprehensive, evidence-based reports grounded in actionable recommendations for our clients. We work with private equity investors and management teams on both the buy and sell-side of transactions to help them understand and navigate emerging risks and maximise commercial opportunities arising from the political, policy or regulatory environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting client-ready content, including for political due diligence reports and policy briefings, for client leads to review;
  • Supporting the delivery of primary research programmes, including interviews with policymakers and political stakeholders;
  • Monitoring the political, policy and regulatory environment for developments of importance to GK and our clients;
  • Supporting on client relationships, showing confidence in interactions with investors;
  • Supporting senior colleagues by contributing to client development and sell-on opportunities;
  • Drafting clear and concise policy summaries and analysis to be shared with assigned clients in a timely manner;
  • Networking effectively outside GK with confidence and demonstrating an appetite to build a professional network;
  • Commercial awareness of GK’s financial objectives, and the importance of ensuring profitable client relationships;
  • Identifying and highlighting new business opportunities to GK’s Insights and Advocacy practices, and opportunities to grow client accounts and relationships in a timely way;
  • Supporting marketing efforts – drafting blogs, social media posts, helping to deliver events, inputting into reports and GK’s monthly newsletter.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A demonstrable interest in politics, policy and current affairs;
  • Excellent research and written communication skills, including the ability to accurately assess and analyse manifestoes, government policy documents, consultations and legislation;
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how political, policy and regulatory developments could impact an organisation and shape the risk profile for a potential investor;
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and tasks;
  • Attention to detail;
  • The ability to build good relationships and networks;
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • An enthusiasm for developing GK’s commercial policy offering and supporting new business initiatives across the business;
  • A creative mindset and the ability to use initiative for problem solving;
  • Any consultancy, in-house or parliamentary experience is desirable but not essential.
