The PubAffairs network numbers over 4,000 members and is free to join. PubAffairs operates a general e-Newsletter, as well as a number of other specific group e-Newsletters which are also available to join by completing our registration form.

The British Association and College of Occupational Therapists (BAOT/COT), the professional body for Occupational Therapists, is looking for a Public Affairs Officer to further develop our relationships with UK political audiences to represent our 30,000 occupational therapy members who deliver a range of essential health and care services.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a growing organisation, across the UK, to shape our response to the changing health and social care policy landscape.

You will be instrumental in forming policy responses to national developments, lobbying and developing campaign activities on behalf of the profession highlighting the positive impact occupational therapy can make.

We are looking for someone who loves politics, has a demonstrable interest in health and social care policy, and who would relish the challenge of being at the forefront of the public affairs function for the organisation. You will have access to professional support and advice from both within the College and from an external consultancy and will be part of a dynamic and supportive team.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Horizon scan to identify political influencing opportunities for the profession;
  • Develop well researched and expertly written policy analysis on relevant topics;
  • Represent the profession at events and policy debates;
  • Build and maintain relationships with political champions and stakeholders;
  • Develop and provide regular written or oral briefings to MPs, Peers, and others including government officials, and other key decision makers on key policies and campaigns;
  • Work with occupational therapy members to raise awareness of the profession to the wider political audience.
